WHAT IS HALLMARK CHRISTMAS IN JULY?
Ever since 2012, the Hallmark Channel began showing holiday movies in the summer as part of their Christmas in July seasonal offering. Each July, Hallmark shows heart-warming, romantic holiday movies that can be enjoyed all day long.
In 2023, the summer season started with Hallmark Movies and Mysteries in June with Merry Movie Week on June 23-June 26. Included was a mini marathon of Christmas movies from June 26 through June 30.
The channel’s most popular Christmas movies aired July 1-4, and viewers even voted for their favorite movies through weekly polls on the Hallmark app.
WHEN DOES HALLMARK CHRISTMAS IN JULY START?
In 2024, Hallmark Christmas in July will begin a bit earlier than expected. On May 31, It was announced that the first holiday film will premiere on June 29 – and it’s a brand new original.
Hallmark also announced that four other movies will be shown every Saturday from July 6 through July 27, including one world premiere and three other titles that were previously only available for streaming on Hallmark Movies Now.

THREE WISE MEN AND A BABY: EXTENDED CUT
PREMIERE DATE: July 6, 2024
STARRING: Paul Campbell, Tyler Hynes, Andrew Walker and Margaret Colin
PLOT: Three brothers get the surprise of their lives when they are forced to work together to care for a baby over the holidays.
RESCUING CHRISTMAS
PREMIERE DATE: July 13, 2024
STARRING: Rachael Leigh Cook and Sam Page
PLOT: Erin is granted three Christmas wishes — with her final wish being that Christmas would just disappear. And to her bewilderment, it does! Can potential suitor Sam help her bring back Christmas?
A VERY VERMONT CHRISTMAS
PREMIERE DATE: July 20, 2024
STARRING: Katie Leclerc and Ryan McPartlin

While we bask in the glow of the new movies announced for 2024, let’s take a fond look back at Hallmark Christmas in July from a year ago.
In 2023, these were two of the most popular Hallmark movies that were shown mid-summer:
A ROYAL CHRISTMAS CRUSH
STARRING: Katie Cassidy and Stephen Huszar
PLOT: Ava accepts the opportunity of a lifetime to work at the Royal Ice Hotel, which leads her to a surprise whirlwind romance with the most important guest of all, the Royal Prince himself.
TAKE ME BACK FOR CHRISTMAS
STARRING: Vanessa Lengies and Corey Sevier

CHRISTMAS KEEPSAKE WEEK
You might also hear Christmas in July on the Hallmark Channel be referred to as Christmas Keepsake Week. (It’s one and the same so don’t get confused.)
During their July Christmas celebration, Hallmark releases their keepsake ornament for the year, so this just tends to tie it all nicely together.
Great American Family (GAC Family) Christmas in July
GAC Family (formerly Great American Country) launched September 2021 featuring family-friendly series, original holiday movies and seasonal romcoms that celebrate faith, family and country.
In 2023, Great American Family expanded its Christmas movie offerings with 21 new original titles. Called “Great American Christmas,” the network’s holiday fare kicked off in October with its largest lineup ever.

What is Christmas in July?
Christmas in July is a chance to celebrate, holiday-style during the month of July. Bring out the holiday decorations, Christmas cookies, and your Santa hat for a fun seasonal event.
Many businesses offer Christmas in July specials (like QVC), so watch for holiday deals and promotions. It’s a great chance to be a frugal shopper or start your holiday shopping early. If you own a small business, consider hosting a Christmas in July sale for your customers.
HOW DID CHRISTMAS IN JULY BEGIN?
As with anything, there are a few variations to the story. The one that tends to be more popular is that this concept stemmed from a summer camp where they decided to make 2 days in July holiday-themed. They went all out with fake snow, a gift exchange, and even an appearance from the big guy (Santa) himself.
FUN WAYS TO CELEBRATE A JULY CHRISTMAS
Tuning in to the Hallmark channel and binge-watching the shows are great, but let’s not forget that you can have even more holiday fun at home during your Hallmark Christmas in July celebration.
We all know that exchanging gifts is all part of the holiday season. Gather family and friends and provide small inexpensive or white elephant gifts to keep guests laughing.
Once the gift exchange is done, it should come as no surprise that everyone is going to be hungry. Some of my favorite holiday recipes are:

If you’re going to go to all the trouble of recreating Christmas in July, go all out for the occasion by being as festive and fun as possible. And if you have some ugly sweaters, crank up the air conditioner put those on as well.
