15 NEW CHRISTMAS MOVIES FOR 2024

Below you will find a handful of some of the new Christmas movies that are being released by the end of 2024 for the holiday season. I am including titles here that are both being released theatrically and going directly to a streaming service.

The Christmas season is indeed a time for tradition, and many of us have our ride-or-die favorites that we must watch every year, or it just doesn’t feel right.

Well, it’s also important to remember that traditions often need to be updated and expanded. Perhaps a title or two from the list below may one day be part of your viewing traditions in the near future.

You will find movies here that have already been released as of this writing as well as movies that are yet to come. I have not included any Hallmark Channel movies – if you are a Hallmark fan, be sure and check out this post.

I have also tried to choose a wide variety of movies: comedy, drama, romance, horror, action… This is only a small selection of the movies that are or will be available throughout the rest of the year. But I hope this is a good starting point for you.

In no particular order, here are 15 movies to look for this Christmas season.

STARRING: Lindsay Lohan, Ian Harding and Kristin Chenoweth

PLOT: After discovering their significant others are siblings, two resentful exes must spend Christmas under one roof while hiding their romantic history.

2. RED ONE

Theatrical release date: November 15, 2024

STARRING: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Chris Evans and Lucy Liu

PLOT: When a villain kidnaps Santa Claus from the North Pole, an E.L.F. (Extremely Large and Formidable) operative joins forces with the world’s most accomplished tracker to find him and save Christmas.

3. CHRISTMAS EVE IN MILLER’S POINT

Theatrical release date: November 8, 2024

STARRING: Sawyer Spielberg, Lev Cameron and Matilda Fleming

PLOT: A family gathers on Christmas Eve for what could be the last holiday in their ancestral home. As the night wears on and tensions arise, one of the teenagers sneaks out with her friends to claim the wintry suburb for her own.

Netflix release date: November 6, 2024

STARRING: Christina Milian, Devale Ellis and Kofi Sirboe

PLOT: On a quest to meet the man of her dreams, a hopeless romantic races across New York City to find a ticket to a sold-out Pentatonix Christmas concert.

Hulu release date: September 5, 2024

STARRING: Ben Stiller, Linda Cardellini and Edi Patterson

PLOT: A strait-laced man finds his life suddenly upended when he becomes the caregiver for his rambunctious, orphaned nephews.

6. A SUDDEN CASE OF CHRISTMAS

Apple TV release date: November 5, 2024

STARRING: Danny DeVito, Andie MacDowell and Wilmer Valderrama

PLOT: An American couple bring their 10-year-old daughter Claire to her grandfather’s hotel in Italy to tell her that they are separating. Hoping to bring them back together, Claire asks the entire family to celebrate one last Christmas together, even though it’s August.

7. THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER

Theatrical release date: November 8, 2024

STARRING: Judy Greer, Lauren Graham and Pete Holmes

PLOT: The Herdmans are six siblings who have a reputation for being the worst kids in the world. However, when they take over the local church pageant during the holidays, they just might teach a shocked community the true meaning of Christmas.
