These homemade Christmas chocolate covered cherries are made with maraschino cherries.

BEST CHOCOLATE FOR MELTING

There are lots of different options for melting chocolates.

This specific recipe works best with white Almond Bark, Vanilla Melting Wafers or White Candy Melts.

I would advise AGAINST using white Chocolate bars or chips. They seize up easier and are not the best choice for this recipe.

HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE COVERED CHERRIES FOR CHRISTMAS

This is a fun recipe to have kids help with and it is an oven-free dessert!

STEP ONE: PREPARE CHERRIES

Drain the liquid from the jar of maraschino cherries.

Strain the cherries from the jar and place them on at least three layers of paper towels and then pat dry.

It is important that the cherries are dry or the chocolate won’t stick properly.

STEP TWO: MELT CHOCOLATE

Melt half of the melting chocolate in the microwave, in bursts of 15 seconds, until it is smooth and lump free.

Pour the sprinkles into small bowls.

STEP THREE: DIP

Working quickly, dip each cherry in the melted white chocolate and then dip in sprinkles and place on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.

I like to leave the top of the cherry exposed without chocolate, but you can dip the whole thing if you prefer.

STEP FOUR: CHILL

Chill for 5 to 10 minutes.

Once the first batch of melted chocolate is over, repeat the process with the second batch of melting chocolate.

The dipped cherries can be stored in the fridge in a covered container for up to a week.

TIPS FOR THE BEST CHRISTMAS CHERRIES

It is a good idea to use white chocolate so that the Christmas sprinkles really pop and show up.

Working in batches with the melting chocolate allows you waste less.

Also, if any liquid seizes the chocolate, you do not end wasting the entire batch.
