WHAT ORNAMENTS DO I FILL?

This DIY Reindeer ornament is made with a clear round glass ornament that is fillable.

We will be heat setting the vinyl onto the ornament so it needs to be a glass ornament for this process.

These ornaments are easy to find at any major craft store and sometimes even at Dollar stores.

TIP FOR WORKING WITH ROUND ORNAMENTS

Round objects like to roll around.

This can make working with the objects difficult.

An easy tip to keep your ornaments from rolling around while you are working is to set the ornament in a little paint tray like the pictures below show.

If you don’t have a paint tray then try sitting it in a roll of masking tape!

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR REINDEER ORNAMENT

This reindeer craft project doesn’t require many supplies and is fairly inexpensive to make.

It is also very easy to make multiple ornaments in a sitting.

  • Fillable Glass Ornaments (you can use plastic if you are not heat setting)
  • Brown Yarn
  • Brown Craft Felt
  • Black, Red, and White Heat Transfer Vinyl (or regular vinyl if preferred)

STEP ONE: CUT FILES

The first step is to download the free SVG cut files (link is toward the bottom of the post).

Next you will upload them to Cricut Design Space.

Cut two antler shapes from the brown craft felt and the smile and eyes from black heat transfer vinyl.

Cut the two eye glints from the white heat transfer vinyl and the nose from the red heat transfer vinyl.

Remember is you are planning to make multiple ornaments to go ahead and cut out multiples now to save yourself time and steps.

TIP: Be sure to check out the best places online to buy heat transfer vinyl!

STEP TWO: FILL ORNAMENT

While you are cutting out the vinyl elements you can start filling the clear ornament with brown yarn.

I think it looks good if it is fairly full, but use your judgement for how much yarn you want to add.
